WE NEED YOU TO JOIN US IN VOLUNTEERING TO BE A SOCCER REFEREE

As you may know, there is an urgent need for soccer referees in our AYSO Region. Whether you already love the game, or just want to help the players have a safe, fair and fun experience, you’re uniquely qualified to lead the charge in helping us fill this critical void.

Won’t you please help us and the AYSO soccer players.  We need volunteers to join us as soccer referees and assistant referees.  If not you, maybe you know someone who is willing and has what it takes to be a soccer referee.

Both youth (ages 12+) and adult referees are welcome!

Requirements:

1. Have a desire to help some awesome kids.
2. Complete a volunteer application (which includes a background check).
3. Complete referee training appropriate for the age division in which you wish to officiate.
4. Complete the Region's new referee orientation (may be included in your original training).
5. Complete SafeSport training (required for all volunteers).
6. Be approved by the Regional Referee Administrator to officiate in your preferred division(s).

The Safe Haven certification is required of all volunteers.  Completion of Safe Haven alone is not sufficient to referee.

How to Access the Online Portion of the Regional Referee Training

The AYSO Online Training & Certification Courses are part of the overall education and training model. These opportunities are not intended to replace any other method of training, but will act as a valuable supplement to the training opportunities already available.

To access the online courses and receive certification or credit, you must have a user account and must be a registered AYSO volunteer with an AYSO ID number.  To access AYSOU, first, login to your account on ifsoccer.org.  You must be logged in to this site in order to access AYSOU (each volunteer must have their own account with their own unique login).  Select the "Volunteer" tab in your user dashboard.  Click "AYSOU."  If you are a new volunteer you may need to wait one business day from the time you registered as a volunteer to have access to AYSOU.  Also, any changes to usernames/passwords are synchronized with AYSOU overnight, so if you change your password you may not have immediate access to AYSOU.

Once you are logged in to AYSOU

1. Select "Training Library"
2. Select "Refereeing"
3. Select "Regional Referee - Online + In-Person Companion Course"

Upon completion (and passing a test), you will be able to print a certificate of successful completion, and your volunteer record will be updated.  The Regional Referee Administrator ("RRA") is not automatically notified when you complete an online course.  Please contact the RRA when you have completed the course and provide a copy of your certificate. NOTE: Completing the online course does not certify you as a referee.  You must also complete the in-person portion of the course.

Referee Rewards Program

To show appreciation for the referees’ service, the Region has established the Referee Rewards Program.  (This program does not apply to coaches who referee their own matches.)  Referees earn “Match Points” for each match the referee officiates.  Match Points vary by division and role.  (See below.)  To get credit for a match, the referee must follow the Region’s procedures, including being scheduled and submitting a match report.  The maximum points that may be earned in a membership year is 600.  At the end of each season, Match Points may be redeemed for some awesome “swag.”  To simplify administration, Match Points must be redeemed during the membership year in which they are earned.  They do not carry over from one membership year to the next.
